Our home was built in the 1900's. It has gorgeous wood work and a ton of character. But it also lacks storage space and has a field stone basement that I don't really care to visit often. Unfortunately, our washer and dryer are located in the basement. It is such an inconvenience to have to take the laundry from the second story and carry it down into the basement. Two flights of stairs with laundry- no thank you. This needs to change.
We believe that our full bath on the second floor was orginally a bedroom. Its a excellent sized room but the design is terrible. Wasted space galore! A light bulb sparked in my brain- we could move the washer and dryer into the bathroom!!! I asked my amazing husband if it was possible to move them and within a few days they were moved! I have to say, I LOVE that my hubby is so talented!
This bathroom also lacks some serious storage. I needed something that could hold my towels, three different sized pull ups, lotions, makeup, extra toilet paper, etc. It also needed to be durable but, not super pricey. I went to Menards, Walmart, Target and search online. I found quite a few that I liked but I just could not justify spending that much money on particle board. I mean seriously over $100 for a shelving unit with drawers and a cabinet?!!!!
Over the years we have accumulated a couple tall dressers and long dressers. Two of which we are not using. I stared at one of the tall dressers and thought I could totally repurpose this beast! I would rather create something then purchase it anyways! But, I'm never done anything like this before!
Please forgive the lack of photos as this job was "on a whim basis."
I wanted to make sure this piece of furniture would meet the demands. I moved it into bathroom and utilized it just as it would be used when completed. The experiment lasted around two weeks and we fell in love with it. So, we muscled this monster down the stairs and onto the deck for it to begin its transformation. I pulled out the drawers ( those have been re-purposed), and cleaned it super good.
I chose to use a mouse sander it to remove the stain and to help bring some life back to this thing. I placed Elmer wood filler in the old draw knob holes and in some of the knicks. Wiped it off, picked out the paint and whoa la!
This beauty was reborn! I'm very happy with my 1st re-purpose and it is absolutely perfect for our bathroom!
